Physical form

Of the numerous factors that influence the breeding selection in a kennel, hunting terrain is certainly prominent.
The physical construction of a hound results in his ability to triumph over the numerous obstacles mother nature presents on every hunt.
An appropriate construction will assist the hound with mastering his scent following task comfortably. Poor muscle strength, lung capacity, foot design and sufficient length of neck will result in an unbalanced quota of perseverance being directed and just remaining in the race.
Of course diet and conditioning are imperative, a focus on matching physical construction to terrain is fundamental to repeated success.

Xosha Bushveld hounds are selected for functioning in such terrain as depicted by the pictures below, the result is an ease of operation in flatter topography and softer ground types.
